Get Tested COVID-19 is a crowdsourced, volunteer organization born out of a desire to provide a database of testing centers & clear, scientific information about the importance of testing in the world’d battles against the coronavirus. I joined as a writer & social media manager to help inform readers distill an extraordinarily complex issue & navigate their lives in the safest way possible.
How the world responded to COVID-19
Early on it was clear that the US was lagging behind other countries in its response and containment of COVID-19. We wanted to look at how other countries responded and what yielded success in protecting communities. Spoiler: it’s testing and contact tracing.
Widespread coronavirus testing is essential
As US states began to re-open or didn’t close at all, widespread testing was thin. The result was a second and even larger spike in COVID-19 cases than in early Spring. This piece was written to drive home that the only way for a community to re-open prior to a vaccine was widespread testing. As it turned out, “getting bored of it” was not effective.
Protesting? Get Tested.
As the pandemic neared its third month, Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd. All around the world, people took to the streets to protest systemic brutality and racism. We wanted to help protestors protect themselves and their fellow protestors as the pandemic raged on.
